Australian Meat Pie
Iconic Australian hand-held meat pie with savory minced beef filling wrapped in golden flaky puff pastry, traditionally enjoyed at footy matches.
📖 Descripción
The Australian Meat Pie is the nation's most beloved comfort food, a handheld savory pastry filled with slow-simmered minced beef, onion, beef stock and Worcestershire sauce thickened into a rich gravy. Baked in a round pie tin and topped with a crisp golden puff pastry lid, it is the quintessential Aussie snack found in every bakery, pub and sporting venue across the country.
👨🍳 Preparación
-
1
Preheat oven to 200°C and lightly grease a small round pie tin (about 10 cm diameter).
-
2
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add chopped onion and sauté for 3 minutes until soft and translucent.
-
3
Add minced beef to the pan, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, and brown for 5 minutes until no pink remains.
-
4
Sprinkle the flour over the meat and stir for 1 minute, then pour in the beef stock, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 6-8 minutes until the mixture thickens into a rich gravy.
-
5
Roll out two-thirds of the puff pastry and line the pie tin, trimming the excess edges, then spoon the cooled meat filling into the pastry case.
-
6
Roll out the remaining pastry to form a lid, place it over the filling, press the edges firmly to seal and crimp with a fork.
-
7
Cut a small steam slit in the center of the lid, brush the top generously with beaten egg yolk for a golden finish.
-
8
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is puffed, crisp and deep golden brown.
-
9
Remove from the oven, let it rest for 5 minutes, then serve hot, traditionally accompanied by tomato sauce (ketchup) on the side.
